Ari promotes literacy with Raise-A-Reader

Ari Taub was one of the many bright orange volunteers found throughout downtown Calgary on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, hawking newspapers in support of the Canwest Raise-a-Reader campaign. This year’s campaign raised more than $116,000, with every dollar donated going directly to Calgary based literacy programs. Alberta Amateur MMA Rule Changes

Hard Knocks intends to suggest some rule changes for amateur MMA in Alberta.

Based on the first Hard Knocks event and recent decisions made by the Calgary Combative Commission as set forth in their March meeting minutes, Hard Knocks thinks the rules should be modified as follows:

1] each round should be shortened from 5 minutes to 4 minutes;

2] the rest period between rounds should be increased from 60 seconds to 90 seconds;

3] twisting leg locks should be banned;

4] blood tests should be valid for 6 months; and

5] a syphilis test should be required.

Please post any comments you have related to the rules on the Hard Knocks blog so we can take them into account when we make our proposal to the AAMMAA.

If you are viewing this post on a site other than the Hard Knocks site, click on the following link to get to the Hard Knocks site so you can post a comment related to the rules there.

inner city real estate investment fund

i am working with an established inner city home builder to set up a limited partnership which will help finance the acquisition of inner city lots in calgary with a view to building duplexes on the lots and selling them into the market.

this is a great idea and i plan to expand on the concept in the near future. if you are interested in putting money into this partnership then let me know and i will put you in contact with the developer.

Armor Protection

I am pleased to announce that the launch of my new armor protection process has been quite successful. Many of my clients who own their own business are now going through the process and virtually every business owner i talk to sees the need for this product.

I have given a few seminars related to armor and the accountants and financial planners in attendance have been supportive of the idea.

If you are interested in learning more please don't hesitate to contact me.

ari joins team pink in the ride to conquer cancer

i am pleased to announce that i have joined team pink and will participate with them in the ride to conquer cancer. i am in the process of getting my personal donation website set up. once it is up and running i will be sending out an email asking for donations.

as some of you may know, sarah's mom died of cancer and as a result, this ride will have some personal meaning for my family.

i will post more information related to this ride as i get it.

i understand that this 2 day event is rather grueling. i look forward to the many hours of riding that will be needed to prepare for this endeavor.

skiing with the family

we had our first family ski trip this past weekend. we stayed at our condo in deadman's flats. i will post a link to their website on my blog. you should consider staying at these condos if you go to the mountains - they are great.

all the kids can get down the mountain pretty good. we skied norquay and nakistka and the kids had a blast at both places.

just a few weeks ago skiing with the kids was an exercise in patience - ski for 10 seconds and wait for several minutes for the kids to catch up.

now, i can ski full speed and for the most part, nick has caught up to me by the time i stop and catch my breath. it won't be long before my 4 year old is calling me slow.

family update

my kids can now downhill ski. the entire family can be seen moving in a snake like fashion down COP on a regular basis. the kids can carry their own gear as well as get it on and off themselves. they still need some herding to get clothes on and into the car but we are going in the right direction.

i have been out xcountry skiing a few times in the last 2 weeks. i had forgotten just how hard the sport is, especially for a big man. COP is quite hilly and my lungs feel like they will explode regularly. i wish someone would build a flat course that gets good snow and grooming close to my house.

on a sad note, sarah's granny died last night at the age of 94.

fight promotion

i just started a mma fight promotion business. it is called hard knocks fighting championship. the website is
